A whole-person approach to pain and recovery.

Osteopathy is a form of primary health care that supports the body’s natural capacity to adapt, self-regulate, and maintain balance. At Kin Osteopathy Whanganui, we provide personalised care to address pain and reduced function by treating the whole person using hands-on manual therapy and osteopathic techniques.

Kin Osteopathy is particularly interested in how physical, social, and emotional factors influence women’s experiences of health, and is committed to supporting women and kin in the Whanganui community.

The clinic provides osteopathy treatment within a biopsychosocial framework that addresses the specific ways women experience their bodies, illness, and healthcare.

Male clients are welcome to get in touch to see if our care suits your needs, or for help finding the right practitioner.

  • Osteopaths are university-trained and government-registered healthcare professionals. They are trained in anatomy, physiology, pathology, general healthcare diagnosis and osteopathic techniques. Osteopaths use your medical history and personal story to understand what may be contributing to your pain and create a personalised plan to help you return to health.

Kin Osteopathy is currently operated by osteopath Tess Charles, an experienced practitioner with over ten years of clinical practice. The clinic is intended to expand in the future.

  • Time is taken to look at your history, discuss your concerns, examine how your body is moving, and explain what’s going on. Treatment and care is guided by current clinical evidence and osteopathic principles, and may include hands-on treatment, advice, or referral where appropriate. The focus is on clear communication and practical steps to support your recovery.

Tess is passionate about supporting the health and wellbeing of waahine in Whanganui and uses a wide range of treatment techniques, from movement rehabilitation to cranial osteopathy and pain science education. She is a firm believer in the biopsychosocial approach to pain — in other words, pain isn’t caused by just one thing. It’s influenced by what’s happening in the body (like injury or strain), how the nervous system is responding (like fear or worry), and what’s going on in a person’s life. Stress, sleep, mood, past experiences, and beliefs about pain can all affect how pain is felt.

Multidisciplinary care is a central focus of Tess’s practice, with emphasis on clear communication between GPs and other healthcare providers to support coordinated, well-managed outcomes for the Whanganui community.

Outside of osteopathy, Tess is a practicing multi-disciplinary artist, gardener, and animal lover.

Treatment Room, Kin Osteopathy Whanganui

Osteopaths look at whole-body patterning to support effective and sustainable recovery.

Stepping back to see the whole picture allows patterns to emerge that may not be obvious when focusing on just a single area.
